Second Grade Learning Expedition
Fall Expedition - From Farm to Table
Students will learn all about how we get food from the earth. We will become experts on how we grow fresh food and use it to create healthy recipes. We will learn how we get food from the earth and from farms and how it gets to our tables.
We will take field trips to:
Common Ground to explore their farm and their gardens
Stop & Shop to find out how they get the food from the farms to sell
Rose's Orchard to learn all about how apples and pumpkins grow
And more!
The total cost of all the field trips, buses, and fees for your child this fall will be $15.
Spring Expedition - Healthy foods and culture
Students will learn all about the 5 food groups. They will learn how it is important to eat foods from each food group every day. They will learn all about why each food group is good for our bodies and help us stay healthy and grow. The students will work together in research groups. They will use informational texts and laptops/iPads to research a specific food group, find answers to specific questions, and create a poster about that specific food group. For our second case study, the students will learn all about the culture of Italy and how Italians use food that is grown in Italy to create healthy meals and recipes.

Stone Hearth restaurant
Pez Factory - to see how food is processed in a factory
CT Science Center - to see an exhibit about healthy bodies and food
A visit from a chef
