Classroom Policies
-I will provide your child with a re-usable water bottle. This water bottle will stay in school. Your child may fill it in the morning and afternoon and may drink from this water bottle whenever they feel thirsty.
-Uniforms - your child is expected to wear a uniform to school daily. This includes the colors blue, black, yellow, white, and beige. These colors can be in the shirts or pants. No jeans.
-Please do not allow your child to bring toys or video games to school. There is not time during the day for your child to play with toys. During recess, the students will go outside to play on the playground. For days when we have indoor recess, your child will play learning games, go to centers, play on the computers/iPads and use blocks. Toys are not necessary and cause problems. The school and myself will not be responsible for lost, broken or stolen toys. To prevent this from happening, it's easier if your child just didn't bring any toys in his/her backpack. Thank you for your cooperation.
-Cell phones are not to be taken out of the child's backpack. If a child has a cell phone out or in his/her pocket, I will hold on to it until the end of the day. They should remain on silent in the backpack. This way, they do not become a distraction to your child's learning. Also, we do not want anyone's cell phones getting lost, broken or stolen. The school and myself will not be responsible for lost, broken or stolen cell phones. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
-Soda is not permitted. Do not send your child to school with any type of soda. We have a healthy eating policy at our school. Soda will be taken away if a child has it. Your child receives milk and juice for breakfast and lunch AND will have their re-usable water bottles. They do not require any extra beverages while in school.
-Candy is not permitted. Do not send your child to school with any types of candy. If a child has candy for a snack or for lunch, it will be taken away.
-Birthday Celebrations - please celebrate your child's birthday outside of school. Dr. D and Ms. Brunson do not permit birthday celebrations to happen within the school day. Since we are a healthy initiative school, we cannot allow birthday cakes or cupcakes in the classroom.
Attendance - Unless your child is sick, please send them to school every day! When you keep your child home, they miss important new skills and concepts. They also miss time to work on in school projects and performance tasks. They miss important assessments that have to be made up during instruction time. Thank you for your help and cooperation!
Grades
To view your child's grades, please visit PowerSchool and enter your child's information that was passed out to you at Open House back in September (it was sent home in your child's folder if you did not attend Open House).
On PowerSchool, I will post your child's weekly spelling test grades, monthly homework grades, monthly project grades, math tests, and habits of work grades. This is a great way to keep track of your child's progress throughout the year!
